My mother was waiting for years for a hip replacement. They had run all the tests etc and said that’s what she needed. He hip got worse so they put her up on the waiting list put her on a strict diet to lose weight so they could perform the operation.
One day she fell she was rushed to the hospital and they said she would need surgery and that she would get her hip replacement. When they started the surgery they more or less stopped it and then ran tests. It turns out her hip problems weren’t from arthritis it was from leukaemia. They put her into Mt Olivet, a palliative care hospital. They couldn’t do anything for her, we had to just watch as she was in pain and wait for her to die.
She died 6 weeks after her fall. What I want to know is how can she be so badly misdiagnosed? How could she be told for years her hip trouble was arthritis but then it turns out to be Leukaemia? No one could answer this question or tell us any details. How did they get it so wrong?
